I ran into Alec Cawley, a longtime user of Connector/J (even goes back to the MM.MySQL days) here at the users‘ conference. For me, it‘s always energizing to hear what people are doing with software you work on.
Alec helps build high-end digital streaming/editing video hardware for broadcast stations that uses MySQL and Connector/J to store frame-level metadata and cut lists. The cool thing (for me) is that this product is being used to put together and broadcast the highlights for ESPN Sportscenter…I‘m not a big sports fan, but I might have to just start watching ESPN to see my stuff in action!
Appreciation from users is the best bonus about working in this environment at MySQL that I‘ve found that I‘ve never had before at other gigs….
